Palisades State Park

This is one of my favorite places to camp with my family! Palisades reservoir is between Manti and Gunnison. Where you camp is grassy. No campfires but you can bring your own or rent a fire pit. We just use a propane grill or Dutch oven. The bathrooms are well kept and there are showers too. So it's pretty clean camping. We always tent it but there are other options there as well not to mention a golf course and restaurant. The reservoir does not allow motorized boats but you can rent paddle boats or canoes or go fishing. There is a small dock you can swim to and jump off. They hold a 5k there every Saturday and utilize the path/trail that goes all the way around the lake. We have a wonderful time whenever we go but we have to reserve it 4 months in advance.

This year we went Monday through Wednesday the last week of July. Jared came with us too and we got to play with him and all his water toys like tubes, kayaks, and electric trolling boat! We played and played! The water was so refreshing! The first night I took Joseph and walked around the lake. It was near the end of the day so as I made it back it was about dusk. I heard something and looked toward the water and saw a skunk! I was far enough away he didn't care about me but I didn't stick around to see if he did. Our second night, Mark, Jared and I stayed up looking at stars when I heard something near Jared's car. Sure enough another friendly skunk that Jared scared away towards the lake. In the years we've gone we have never seen any before. Second time for me, seeing a live skunk, the first time is for another story another time. But I quote that experience often with, "he didn't even swerve!"

The next morning Jared took Devin fishing with him. After a while Devin said he caught one but Jared felt the rod and didn't think so. Well Jared caught fish after fish and couldn't believe Devin hadn't caught one so he had him reel in. Sure enough, Devin had caught one! He was so proud and excited. He would not let us leave until he ate his first fish. So he had Mark cook it at lunch. Mark has fished a bunch of times and caught a lot of fish but if you can believe it, he's never cooked one! Devin ate it all and I even had a piece. Didn't taste too bad. We had pancakes for lunch and Devin ate one after his fish. Mark asked him which he liked better and Devin said, "I liked the fish better but I ate the pancake to get the taste out of my mouth."
Lol...So funny!
All the kids fell asleep on the way home. We made it home safely even after the tread shredding on one of our trailer tires in the middle of nowhere, 15 miles from Nephi with no spare. We gently pulled into Nephi and got frosty's and the tire fixed. Such a blessing that we made it! Our day ended with a garden dinner at grandma and grandpa Stevenson's house and then much needed bedtime!

This is the end of one of those happy family adventures!
